A shrine built in Kashihara, the site where the first emperor is said to have acceded to the throne, thus founding Japan.

Built in 1890. The wooden main shrine, with its thatched cypress roofing, was partially relocated from what was at the time known as the Kyoto Imperial Palace, with the traditional Japanese aesthetic evident in its architecture making this a nationally important cultural property. The first emperor of Japan is enshrined here.
